Guarding your pool filter against unwanted microorganisms

It’s an enormously popular consumer “wonder” product, and it’s also available for your swimming pool: Microban® antimicrobial protection. This technology can take your pool’s filter cartridge to new levels of cleanliness!

Safe enough to be used in hundreds of consumer products like socks, baby toys, countertops, cutting boards, and humidifiers, Microban protection helps prevent growth of bacteria, yeasts, molds, and fungi that cause stains, odors, and product degradation. Best of all, it does so in a safe, revolutionary way that provides lasting product protection.

When microbes come in contact with the product surface, Microban protection penetrates the organism’s cell wall—interfering with its ability to function and reproduce. That makes it difficult for a colony of unwanted invaders to ever gain a foothold on a product surface.

Why your pool filter should contain Microban protection

Best of all, Microban protection is built into products—not just sprayed on or applied after the fact. To do so, the Microban element is custom engineered for different materials. From toothbrushes to hospital dressing gowns, it is incorporated during the manufacturing process.

With top-quality pool filter cartridges, the Microban element is integrated into the actual material that is later used for making the accordion-like folds that filter the water. This approach means the protection in the filter will endure: Unlike other surface-treatments, Microban does not wear out, as it is designed to last as long as the product does.

If you have ever owned a pool with a cartridge filter, you know the overall ease of its maintenance compared to DE or sand filters. However, if the filter did not have Microban, you may have experienced a slimy build-up of “gunk” that occurs over time in the folded material.

With Microban protection in the filter, you can expect a much better result. You will still need to clean your cartridge filter a few times a year (with some models and sizes, as little as only once per year). However, with Microban keeping microorganisms at bay, the cartridge will remain fresher between cleanings. And when the time comes to clean your filter, the process will be easier..
